Cheap Trick Mariachi Mash Up – Surrender

In 1978 or 1979, roughly concurrent with Cheap Trick’s release of Heaven Tonight and Dream Police, I argued vehemently that Cheap Trick was a combo whose appeal would go on. I predicted their careers would have the longevity of a band like the Rolling Stones, who even by then had been recording and touring for a long time and showed no signs of stopping. I posited this argument to a friend who believed equally as strongly that CT were mere fluff, more like the Bay City Rollers, a flash in the pan, likely to fade away quickly. Time has proven me correct, mostly. Not only has Cheap Trick persisted at recording and touring, they’ve kept a sense of humor about it. CT probably has a richer sense of humor now, as can be perceived from this mariachi mash up of “Surrender”– which has to be the greatest thing I’ve seen in a long time– than they did at the time of the original recording of Surrender.
