Within the last year or so, multimedia artist, Barbara Trentalange, had a baby. Balancing motherhood with creative expression, she completed a series of paintings titled, “Baby Napping Series.”

“I started the series because I needed to be quiet around the house while my daughter napped,” says Trentalange. “Since I couldn’t write and play music (which is what I would typically be doing) I did the next best thing: paint the people I would be playing music with.”

The kid must sleep for hours. Trentalange has created delightful, evocative paintings of famous personages in the Seattle music scene which fans are going to want to see. (A sneak preview is below.)

“I haven’t promoted the paintings yet,” says Trentalange, “since I was working on getting a show for the series. I finally have two shows. The first one will be at Cupcake Royale for the months of March and April. We are going to have a party [March 10, 2011 at Cupcake Royale] with all the artists I painted in attendance along with Graig Markel spinning their music. This show will be part of the March Capitol Hill Art Walk. All ages.”

A second show is planned for July 2011 at Miro tea in Ballard. Trentalange hopes to add new artwork to the Ballard show.

Trentalange is “described [here and on her website] as a ‘multi-media artist,’ which is true,” says Seattle music writer Steve Stav, “but it should be pointed out that Barbara is at least as much of a musical talent as her portrait-subjects.”

East Portland Blog will update you as the date approaches.

In the meantime, enjoy.
