Jamaica Day 9: Time to Level Up, Building a Riddim and an Epic, by Davin Michael Stedman

I am trying to upload the greatest video clip from Nine Mile. But how about me hanging out with Prince Allah right now?

We are having a nice long chat, but I had two minutes left on my phone. Legends everywhere. You wake up and legends chillin’.

Time to level up. Owen Baddie liked my songs and said he heard a hit. So he called in some favors and his session buddies because he wants to cut the tracks as a band. The level up part is that I am cutting the guitar live.

With Chinna they overdubbed over my take of vocal and guitar with no click. With Sly & Robbie they had me lay the guitar to click, over dub vocals, and then they built their Dance Hall architecture.

This time it is LIVE pocket with the best. We’re building a Riddim with ‘Three Wheel Motion’ and an epic with ‘West Indian Rock’.

You do things here you would not do in America.

I want to give Jamaica my kind of Riddim. Familiar but even foreign in the Northwest. That Creole dish.
