What About Paul Ryan? by Vino Knight-Trané

ryanI suspect the Republican nomination will either go to Trump or be a big-time mess, or both. Someone like Paul Ryan could emerge as the nominee, but only after a public bloodletting in a non-brokered free-for-all of a convention that might put 1968 to shame. He would start the general election with serious disadvantages in organization and perceptions of legitimacy among voters that no amount of Koch money could fix. The donor class, who yearns for the days of the smoke-filled rooms, might pressure Ryan come to the rescue as he did with the Speakership, but he would be foolish to accept that assignment. He has dreams of being president, but 2020 would be a much more auspicious time for him to throw his hat into the ring. That, at least, is how I would see it if I were Ryan.

I’m looking forward to some must-see TV in July.

My favorite political writer, Norm Ornstein, pretty much mirrored my comments (above and also previously) with his recent post.

Meanwhile on the Democratic side

Here’s a Daily Kos article lamenting Hillary’s ownership of all superdelegates:

I’ve never taken superdelegates too seriously. They were all hers in 2008 until Obama beat her in ten straight primaries. Then they bailed. Even bought and paid for, they’ll go with the wind if it blows hard enough.

Obama to Clinton in 2008: “You’re likable enough!”
