Don’t Worry, Papa’s Working, By Chuck Strom

caracasWhen worlds collide, we often get comedy. A story on National Public Radio this morning showed how this can happen even in the most traumatic situations. Apparently, kidnapping is a booming business in Latin America. The Morning Edition host, Steve Inskeep, interviewed a woman in Venezuela whose adult daughter had been kidnapped. While negotiating with the kidnapper via cell phone, she heard the kidnapper interrupt the conversation to take a call from his own daughter. “Papa’s working,” the woman heard the kidnapper say. “Don’t worry.”

Perhaps later his wife called, asking him to pick up some milk on the way home.
