Today, LA-based songwriter and producer Jordan Patterson announces her latest project, The Hermit, set to drop independently on September 19. The Hermit, Patterson’s most realized body of work to date, casts a light into the spaces where grief, self-inquiry, and spiritual longing meet. Entirely self-written and co-produced alongside JEHU and Eric Van Thyne, the project is a gentle force—a composite of hushed folk, ambient textures, and intimate songwriting, delivered through Patterson’s haunting, clear-eyed voice.
Accompanying the announcement is Patterson’s latest single, “Racecar.” A potent and dreamy ballad Jordan recorded with the children of close family-friends, the three girl’s background vocals offer a wonderful youthfulness in contrast to Jordan’s mature voice and subject matter. “Choosing a home is more than a place or even people, Patterson explains. “Home is like a little star in your chest and whenever it feels, it can come out and shine in the darkest of places and relationships. ‘Racecar’ is my journey to community and a real home.“
North Carolina-born and LA-raised, Jordan Patterson creates catharsis from an alternative landscape. Blunt, raw, and decisive, Patterson is crafting a world through her music by inviting listeners to absorb the depth of her humanity and imagination. She attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts as a theater major but was exposed to new forms of artistry that expanded the scope of her creativity. In 2020, she moved to New York to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts but moved back to LA in 2021 to pursue music full-time. She now finds herself back in the Valley, writing and performing across the city regularly at venues like El Cid, Genghis Cohen, Permanent Record Roadhouse, and more. She has also recorded with musicians cross-nationally, working with producers from LA, New York, Atlanta, and London.
2025 has been an exciting year for the young artist & songwriter. She recently opened for the buzzy Australian starlets, Folk Bitch Trio, playing for a sold-out crowd at Permanent Records Roadhouse in Los Angeles. Her last single, “God,” earned her attention from Rolling Stone, Stereogum, The Fader, and a shoutout in Spotify’s “Lorem and Friends” newsletter being touted as one of the 10 songs editors could not stop listening to. Earlier releases in the year have earned her attention from Nina Protocol, The Line of Best Fit, KXSC, and KCRW. This past February, Jordan found herself tagged by Geese frontman, Cameron Winter for an opening set at his sold-out show in LA at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre which earned her a standing ovation from the stunned crowd. When reflecting on the performance, Jordan notes “It was so invigorating because it was my first show in a new environment where no one knew who I was. It was liberating and I felt like I could just paint however I wanted. Also, Cameron is a sweetheart.”
At its core, Jordan’s music parallels her individual experience and the relationships that ignite her. Jordan is eternally dedicated to being an unadulterated novice, creating music that reflects her role as an artist who is perpetually “in progress.”
