Still Blank Release Alternative Version Of Latest Single – “Ain’t Quite Right (unresolved)” Produced by Flood

July 25, 2025 — Following their hypnotic debut “What About Jane,” Still Blank return with a two-part single release. The first, Ain’t Quite Right,” introduced a darker, more charged side to the duo’s elusive sound. Now, they unveil its counterpart: “Ain’t Quite Right (Unresolved),” a transformative version produced in collaboration with legendary producer, Flood. Listen HERE and watch the zoetrope visual HERE.

Flood–renowned for his seminal work with Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and The Smashing Pumpkins–brings a new dimension to Still Blank’s sonic world. With “Ain’t Quite Right (Unresolved),” he reconfigured the track into a starker, shadow-drenched form, drawing out its brooding energy and emotional complexity. The result is the most arresting Still Blank recording to date. Written during a stormy Manchester winter, “Ain’t Quite Right” —which Stereogum praised “has a cool unease…the lyrics depict an increasingly violent relationship, tempered by whispery vocals and a steady, steel bass…the song builds at such a satisfying space before spiraling out at the end after a fatal scene,” — marked a shift in creative roles for Jordy (Kaua’i, Hawaii) and Ben (Manchester, UK), with Jordy leading the musical framework while Ben focused on melody and lyric. That spirit of inversion continues with this Flood-produced version—one that leans deeper into the track’s themes of dysfunction, claustrophobia, and unresolvable tension.

“We wanted it to feel on edge—building tension,” the band explain. “The lyrics explore a relationship where both sides are suffocating and neither can let go. Flood pushed that dissonance even further, pulling out this feeling of unraveling.”

This two-part release positions Still Blank as one of the most enigmatic and shape-shifting new voices in alternative music. Their continued partnership with National Anthem (HAIM, Chvrches) via Capitol Records gives them the platform to explore multiple artistic paths, leaning into subtlety, shadow, and sonic risk. Drawing from shoegaze, grunge, and folk influences, Still Blank’s sound remains fluid and emotionally rich. Their debut single “What About Jane” received praise from the likes of likes of CLASH, Dork, Wonderland and DIY amongst others. Under The Radar said, “Still Blank makes a striking first impression…(they) have arrived with a debut single that feels unusually assured (and) introduces a band who already seem to know exactly who they are and what they want to say.”

Still Blank’s sound was born from unlikely roots. Jordy grew up immersed in the natural rhythms of island life in Hawaii, gigging at weddings and fundraisers by her early teens while drawing inspiration from Hawaiian traditions and the deep solitude of Kaua’i. Ben, raised on Manchester’s rich musical legacy and early pub gigs with his dad’s band, developed a taste for ambient textures, citing The Durutti Column and Vini Reilly as formative influences. Their unlikely meeting in the UK sparked a lightning-in-a-bottle creative partnership. What started as casual jam sessions in a Liverpool basement quickly evolved, with sessions ranging from stripped-back recordings on a broken classical guitar to studio lock-ins fueled by long walks through rural Wales and a shared commitment to imperfection. With lyrics steeped in people-watching, dreams, nature, and existential observation, Still Blank’s songwriting draws from both introspection and their surroundings, echoing the mood of artists like Yo La TengoBig Thief and Cat Power.

This fall, Still Blank will take their live show on the road, joining Royel Otis across all European dates. Full itinerary HERE. Known for sets that move between fragile intimacy and full-blown catharsis, these shows mark an exciting next chapter for the duo. With a growing cult curiosity within the scene, Still Blank are setting their own rules and embracing ambiguity – stay tuned for more coming soon.
