“Pink Light” is available on AppleMusic – Spotify – YouTube
Two Dark Birds is a band from the Catskill Mountains led by songwriter Steve Koester and drummer Jason Mills. They are joined by Josh Roy Brown (lap steel), Tyler Wood (keys), Mark Lerner (bass), and Iris Clementine (vocals). Since 2008, they have released four critically acclaimed albums, as well as the 2022 EPPorous. Their upcoming fifth LP Dreamers of the Golden Dream is due out summer 2025 on Vfib Recordings.
Prior to Two Dark Birds, Koester fronted the bands Punchdrunk, Koester, and Maplewood. The music has been called “knockout gorgeous” and “timeless… great rock music” and has received glowing reviews everywhere from Fader and Nylon to The Village Voice and The New York Times, showing up on year-end Best Of lists in Magnet, Popmatters, Rhapsody, Disclaimer and more. Koester has also written, recorded and produced a wide variety of songs for TV and film.
Pink Light was recorded and produced with Jeff Lipstein in Woodstock, NY and was mastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room. Lyrically, the song explores a moment when the mundane and the infinite intersect. Musically, the song shares some loose sonic DNA with Cocteau Twins, Talking Heads, Cate Lebon, Nick Drake, and maybe Os Mutantes. It didn’t quite fit in with the new album coming out this summer, so they’re releasing it as a stand alone single.
