BUZZING SONGSTRESS CRYING CITY RELEASES NEW SINGLE “TELL US APART”

May 30, 2024 – New York, NY – Korean-American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Crying City returns today with a new single entitled “Tell Us Apart” out now via Soka Records and Mercury Records. It marks her first release of 2025. Listen HERE. Watch the official visualizer HERE.

Though it may barely cross the two-minute mark, the song packs an intensely emotional punch. This time around, a stomping drum groove slips into a haze of lush guitar. Her evocative and entrancing vocals swoon and stir, rising and falling with the tempo. Reaching a point of climactic release, she untangles the complexity of a relationship-on-the-brink, going on to exhale, “I hate that I don’t know, but we’re the same. Wouldn’t know where to start. Could you find me in a crowd, tell us apart? Weird, you should go find someone else to blame. During the finale, an airy guitar lead screeches in the background as her hum echoes in the distance.

Last year, she made waves around the world with the You’re Still The Luckiest Thing To Happen To Me… EP. Among many highlights, “Urn” captivated listeners, piling up over 12 million Spotify streams. Meanwhile, “Lucky” gathered 8.5 million Spotify streams. In addition to performing to packed crowds with the likes of Fiji Blue, she continued to write and record at a prolific pace.

“Tell Us Apart” just signals more to come from Crying City this year.

Emotions never sleep. Crying City soundtracks those moments after midnight when all of your feelings come to light at once. Merging lo-fi D.I.Y. beat-craft, gritty instrumentation, arresting hooks, and evocative vocals, the Korean-American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer transfixes with equally catchy and cinematic anthems. Born in South Korea, she moved to Indiana at three-years-old before spending the majority of her childhood in Phoenix, AZ. Each summer, she visited family in Korea, maintaining a close connection to her heritage. At seven-years-old, she learned how to play piano, going on to pick up violin during high school. With ambition to become a doctor, she studied neurobiology at UC Berkeley. During freshman year, she expanded her musical palette, listening to the likes of Mitski, Beabadoobee, Radiohead, Billie Eilish, and her “favorite”Chase Atlantic. Simultaneously, she penned songs of her own for fun, sharing snippets on TikTok. Between trending on social media, she made waves with “Nervous” and generated millions of streams in 2022. She accelerated this momentum with “Buy My Lies” and “Better (with you). 2023’s “Urn” surged as a global phenomenon. The initial sound exploded on TikTok in Southeast Asia, while a popular song lyric analysis page touted it. She eventually caught the attention of Soka Records/Mercury Records and inked a deal with the label. Generating tens of millions of streams independently and building buzz, she draws listeners into a living, breathing, and ever-evolving sonic world on her debut EP for Soka Records/Mercury Records and more to come.
