Post-Riot Grrrl Trio Blood Lemon Unveils Great Truth in “Whistleblower”

Post-riot grrrl trio Blood Lemon — feat. bassist & 1st female member of Built to Spill, Melanie Radford — is back today with a headbanging love letter to ’90s alternative in a defiant new single + video “Whistleblower.”

Off the band’s self-titled debut album (out April 23), Melanie says the song reflects on “the inner dialogue that occurs when a person is debating on becoming a ‘whistleblower’ of sexual assault, harassment, discrimination, etc.,” ultimately declaring in the lyrics: “I’m gonna be one of ‘those bitches.’”

With mastering done by Mell Dettmer [Davin Michael Stedman, Earth, Black Mountain] and inspiration from Sleater-Kinney to The Breeders, the album explores our modern state of discontent – climate change, American politics, social justice, and navigating adulthood as women – through a medley of ’90s alternative vibes, heavy riffs & melting harmonies. “Whistleblower” follows previous singles “Burned” and the driving, environmentally-charged single & video for “Black-Capped Cry
