Jamaica Day 11: Behind the Scenes at BBCTV, Jah9, New Clothes, Publicist Extraordinaire, by Davin Michael Stedman

Want to join me behind the scenes on a BBC TV program? Today I met BBC presenter David Rodigan and Beanie Man, as Anthony Red Rose introduced me and the news of our ‘Free Your Mind’ to the Big Yard.

I also got to see a stripped down and poignant performance from a deserved darling of the contemporary reggae scene, Jah9.

I just watched the video for ‘Steamers a Bubble’ and was so pleased to see it was shot at Chinna’s yard in St. Andrew where I cut ‘Bush Doctor’ and ‘Maybe it’s Too Late’ and met all these Rastas I call my pals.

Steamers a Bubble – Jah9:

I still have a lot of homework to do, to make sense of this magnificent music scene. This is my Nashville.

As for Jah9. I didn’t introduce myself. It was like seeing Royalty. The Big Yard is a Court.

About to do my third interview in Kingston. The second featuring our single, ‘Free Your Mind’, which we are delaying release for another 3 weeks because we met with a distributor at Sly & Robbie’s studio.

They call Red Rose ‘Fadda’ when I walk with him on the streets and into events for good reason.

“JAMAICA, JAMAICA” Oh they made me freestyle live on the radio to prove their motto talent over hype. Well I grew up rapping and singing on the corner with Wyatt Powell so Kingston I stay ready.

Each DJ has tested me in a cool way to see if I am certified. I just had to have him turn up that beat. Video coming soon.

Have shout outs to Greg, East Portland Blog, and Sick Donkey Records. It takes a village.

Doing my best to make you proud.

Red Rose says, “You’re on the team.”

These guys are the San Antonio Spurs.

Shopping in Kingston with Red Rose so I don’t look like a silly tourist in a legit video. I told him and Susan our publicist,

“I don’t have no style!”

My Jamaican publicist ruuuuuuuuns sh_t. She is so good. When you work with Sly & Robbie you break artists and you give the world hits.

Black Nashville forever.

TV, radio, launch parties, print. She placed an article in The Star newspaper about me in the society section.

Ruuuuuuuuns sh_t. I want to connect her with the American Susan Smith, Barbara J Mitchell.
