100 Miles of Sports: The Cartel Economy & How to Lose to the Bad News Bears, by Davin Michael Stedman

NBA super teams reflect the spirit of our economy. The haves and the have nots. Like our economy the f_ckery is accelerating and it’s damaging the true competitiveness that well regulated capitalism provides when more individuals and companies can compete.

I like Golden State but what a Cartel! Monopolies are emerging, even if the NBA, but unlike our executives (or state college coaches), The League has a salary cap. Like our political landscape, these bros ain’t loyal. And they have less and less reasons to be.

The NBA sure has a nice welfare program for its owners. When Americans are devastated by losses they don’t get year after year of potential #1 picks.

“You lost your house to flooding and you can’t rebuild? Here is a brand new plane and plenty of jet fuel. Feel free to trade it for what ever you want.”

But…the rich that lose on purpose and shield their true assets with bankruptcy and other asset shifting tricks do pretty nice in the American draft.

Three times was the charm for our Supreme leader. Though American banks no longer felt he was trustworthy of even high risk credit and loans, thankfully there was a group of Russian investors that believed in the potential of this Biff of the building industry.

Despite of his skin color, despite of his record as a contributing member of the Democratic Party they despised, they saw a beautiful low hanging fruit, and they decided to build a team in the Republican conference that would go on in 2016 to win a USA championship.

Russia won the Brexit Cup. They narrowly lost the Championships in France & Germany, due to literacy and short term memory.

But in America they took home the Gold with the lowest draft pick in US political history, because they understood the competition and what the fans wanted. They a team that made the Minneapolis Lakers look like a Nigerian swim team. And they got it.

These are the type of lessons I wish we never had to learn. Because we haven’t. Because America as a whole is heading back to the ABA. The boom & bust bad merger and bankruptcy part.
