ABBA – Why Did It Have To Be Me, by Tom Fredrickson

You need to see this: Frida! Bjorn’s Ovation Breadwinner! Frida’s satin hot pants and charmingly awkward dancing and blithe overconfidence!

That video was discovered in an Internet breadcrumb trail—there needs to be a word for that experience (start with site A, which takes you to video B, which leads to chatroom C, etc.); maybe wormholing?—with a video of the Detroit all-girl group the Pleasure Seekers covering the Four Tops “Reach Out” in 1968 (http://wfmuichiban.blogspot.com/2014/11/crayons-to-perfume-is-on-vacation.html). Turns out the Pleasure Seekers’ lead singer was none other than Suzi Quatro, who performed “Does Your Mother Know” on a German Abba tribute show with the Sweets’ ridiculously coiffed and heavily wattled (if not goitered) Andy Scott (“Dignity, always dignity!”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPKjhpHfgBI). Then on to a pure Abba fix—with a Frida fixation. Very bad, very dull doc on the making of Frida’s solo album with our old pal Phil Collins somewhere in there.

This is how I spend my evenings after my son has gone to bed and my wife is away on business.
