Activities That Kids Will Enjoy in Tunisia

Tunisia

You might envision Tunisia as a wonderful place for an exotic holiday. Most tourists love visiting the tiny African nation because you’re right in the middle of so many different landscapes – beaches, desert, mountains, and cities. But Tunisia also has plenty to do for the whole family, and if you’re thinking about bringing the kids along on vacation, you’ll be surprised how many things there are to do that will get them excited. There are plenty of ideas you can add to your itinerary that travelers of all ages will enjoy, and these are just a few of them.

1. Camel Rides

There are plenty of opportunities to book camel rides through the Sahara, and it can be one of the most fun and memorable parts of your vacation. If you can afford to book a longer trip, you can even camp out in the desert for a day or two. Be advised that riding a camel can be a little scary the first time around, and you want to make sure you have good travel insurance before you attempt to ride long distances. If you have younger children, another option would be taking them to a local zoo, where they can ride camels safely in an enclosed pen.

2. Star Wars Sets

George Lucas shot four Star Wars films in Tunisia, and diehard Star Wars fans will recognize most of the Tatooine locations in the desert, where dwellings and even props from the movies are still preserved today. In fact, the cave dwellings in Matmata used for Luke Skywalker’s home are now an affordable and fun hotel filled with Star Wars memorabilia. You can also visit the real city of Tatouine and see the ancient buildings featured in the movies. Many Star Wars tours are available for tourists, and if you have kids or grown-ups in the family who are big fans, it’s an exciting way to spend an afternoon.

3. The Animal Park

Friguia Park in Tunis is the lone wildlife park and possibly the most famous animal attraction in the country. If your kids are interested in seeing lions and tigers, or even holding baby meerkats, they could have a lot of fun spending a few hours here. And it’s more than just a zoo. At night, there are dinner shows and African dances, which makes it a fun and colorful place for adults to get a feel for the Tunisian culture, as well. The park is also filled with shops, snack bars, and restaurants for whatever time of day.

4. Go Karting

Hergla Park in Tunisia is very popular because of its go kart rings – one for children, and one for adults. If you want to take a day out of your holiday to just have fun, it’s a great location. The park also boasts several merry-go-rounds, amusement rides, and shops, so there will be something for everyone to do. It’s like a slice of Coney Island in the middle of Africa.

Obviously, having kids doesn’t mean that you can’t take vacations to exotic places like Tunisia. If you plan ahead, you can keep them busy, and they’ll have a lot of fun while getting a rewarding experience at the same time. Travel is one of the best gifts you can give to your children, and if you find out what they’re interested in, the whole family can have a great time together.
