Carola Standertskjöld – Seize the Time (1970) By Pat Thomas

Most of you have seen the Black Power Mixtape which isn’t music, it´s Swedish TV interviewing Movement leaders in the 1960s, but here’s Carola Standertskjöld, a Finnish jazz singer, singing an Elaine Brown protest song in 1970 on TV with posters of Huey Newton behind her. The Scandinavians really embraced Black Power, hence my Listen Whitey tour of Danish Universities this week.

Pat Thomas is the author of the recently released work, Listen, Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975
