Byard Lancaster – John’s Children, By Pat Thomas

I’ve just been informed that horn player Byard Lancaster has left the building. I produced this reissue of his 1968 Vortex/Atlantic Records album (which featured Sonny Sharrock on some tracks). This song “John’s Children” was NOT named in tribute to Marc Bolan’s first band, but for the musical off-spring of John Coltrane. I didn’t know Byard well but I’d describe him affectionately as a “crazy old goat.”
