Here’s some vintage video of monks chanting & painstakingly drawing sand mandalas among other things. I got to see a performance like this a few years back when a group of monks was in residence at a health food store for a month painting this huge mandala in public. Then one day, of course, they poured all the sand into a vessel destroying the image, amid chanting, horns and cymbals… This was the best performance I think I’ve ever seen.
