In Grantland – We Are All ‘Closing Time’: Why Semisonic’s 1998 Hit Still Resonates, By Peter Dysart

This is a good article about a great band. The second I heard Closing Time there was no doubt this song would be a keeper. On the flip of that, I scratch my head why FNT and its massive hook weren’t just as big.

The first time I heard Semisonic (then Pleasure) at the old Lounge Ax in Chicago, there was no question where they were going. Here was another solid trio creating a sound that was much greater than the sum of its parts.

Credit solid songwriting, experienced guitars and vocals talents, a sense of fun and one phenom multitasking drummer, and it’s easy to understand why we’re still reading about them. I wondering when a reunion is in order.
