Fairport Convention – Time Will Show the Wiser, by Eduard P. Gomez

FAIRPORT CONVENTION was formed in 1967 by Richard Thompson (guitar & vocals), Simon Nicol (guitar & vocals, viola), Ashley Hutchings (bass), Judy Dyble (vocals) and Martin Lamble (drums). Ian Matthews (vocals & guitar). Fairport Convention played a mixture of Folk-Rock influenced by British-Folk, American-Folk-Rock, Blues, Country, Cajun and American songwriters like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley and Joni Mitchell.

Their self-titled debut was released in 1968. On this album the folk leanings are not as obvious as they would become on subsequent albums especially with arrival of Sandy Denny (late of the Strawbs and replacing Dyble).

This cut, Time Will Show The Wiser, has more in common with U.S. West Coast Rock than the music that they will come to be associated with. You can’t deny that it’s one hell of rocker.
